The People’s Government is working towards more partnerships, more wine, and a stronger identity for Guanajuato for this goal, the Wine Museum hosted the Second Session of the Guanajuato State Wine Tourism Commission, led by the Secretary of Tourism and Identity (SECTURI).

After reaffirming Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo’s interest in the wine industry, the Secretary of Tourism, Maria Guadalupe Robles Leon, emphasized that partnerships and coordinated efforts by the public and private sectors are key to strengthening Guanajuato’s wine tourism identity as an engine of economic, tourism, and social development.

Robles Leon reiterated that Guanajuato is consolidating its position as Mexico’s fourth-largest wine producer, with 82 vineyards and more than 80 wine tourism experiences that integrate wine, gastronomy, culture, history, nature, and hospitality, making the State an increasingly competitive and attractive destination for national and international visitors.

The Secretary of Tourism insisted that just a decade ago, speaking of Guanajuato as a wine powerhouse seemed like a distant goal. And today, thanks to the vision, work, and perseverance of everyone involved, that collective effort has become a reality that elevates the name of our State both within and beyond Mexico.
In 2026 52 awards have been received at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2026, one of the world’s most prestigious wine competitions.

“These results fill us with pride and confirm that we are on the right track. Because today, Guanajuato is positioned as the second most awarded state in Mexico in the wine industry, second only to Baja California, consolidating a winemaking identity that also strengthens our tourism, generates regional development, and projects our State as a destination of excellence,” said the Secretary.

The Commission’s work included:
- Consolidating the Catalog of Wine Tourism Experiences
- Strategy for the Guanajuato 2026 Wine Harvests Season
- Organization of the Wine Congress
- Actions to obtain the Protected Geographical Indication “Wines of Guanajuato”
- A project that will strengthen the identity, prestige, and value of the wines produced in Guanajuato.
In the Second Session of the Wine Tourism Commission, the commitment to continue building alliances between government, producers, municipalities, business owners, universities, tour operators and sector organizations was reaffirmed to boost the competitiveness of the wine industry, generate greater regional development and consolidate Guanajuato as one of the main wine tourism destinations in Mexico.
