The State of Guanajuato continues to consolidate itself as one of the most important tourist destinations in Mexico and the world, standing out with its two Heritage Cities: Guanajuato Capital and San Miguel de Allende, nominated in the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2026 in the category of Best City.
These awards are part of one of the most influential accolades in the global tourism industry, where millions of readers and travelers evaluate destinations based on their experiences, highlighting aspects such as hospitality, cultural offer, gastronomy, infrastructure, and authenticity. Year after year, these awards reflect international tourism trends and preferences, positioning the world’s most outstanding destinations.
The nomination of both cities represents a significant achievement for Guanajuato, which has successfully built a strong tourism offer based on its identity, historical heritage, and the warmth of its people. In the case of San Miguel de Allende, its history with these awards reinforces its international standing, having been recognized on numerous occasions as one of the Best Cities in the world and even as the Best Small City in various editions.
Furthermore, this World Heritage city has stood out globally for its cultural richness, its colonial architecture, its artistic scene and its gastronomic offer, elements that have kept it consistently in the most important international rankings.
Meanwhile, Guanajuato City, with its historical treasures, its emblematic alleyways, its cultural tradition and its relevance as the cradle of Mexican Independence, is consolidating itself as a destination that combines history, art and unique experiences for national and international visitors.
These nominations reflect not only the greatness of the Guanajuatense destinations, but also the result of a strategic vision driven by the Secretary of Tourism and Identity of Guanajuato, which works in coordination with the tourism sector to strengthen competitiveness, diversify the offer and position the State in the main international markets.
Under the leadership of the People’s Government, led by Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, a tourism policy focused on identity, regional development, and generating opportunities for communities has been promoted.
