Health Authorities urge the population to eliminate objects where water is stored to prevent breeding grounds for mosquitoes that transmit the disease

The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato reports that during the first three months of 2025, 13 cases of dengue were reported in the State of Guanajuato, while in the same period of this year there were 4, a figure that represents a reduction of 63 percent. Regarding this year’s patients, all have recovered satisfactorily.
The Secretary of Health of the State of Guanajuato, Gabriel Cortes Alcala, noted that this disease has been brought under control and that each year there is a significant reduction in cases.
The best strategy to prevent the proliferation of the vector is to apply at home the strategy “Wash, cover, turn over and throw away” containers, pots and everything that accumulates water on rooftops and patios, places conducive to mosquito reproduction.
During 2024 there were more than 5,000 cases; while in 2025 there were 1,600 and so far in 2026 there have been four.
“This was achieved thanks to a very good effort, not only by the Secretary of Health, but also by citizens in their homes, because we must remember that this is where dengue is spread”, said Cortes Alcala.
“It is in homes where people have accumulated water, puddles, sinks, bottle caps filled with water. The water in pet bowls when it is not changed constantly, the water in flower vases, etc. People are very aware that they should wash, turn over, and clean containers with water to prevent mosquito breeding grounds,” said the Secretary of Health of Guanajuato.
These actions complement the work of the Secretary of Health with fumigation efforts in areas where the dengue mosquito is known to be circulating.
In addition, we are working in coordination with the municipalities to organize clean-up actions in vacant lots, collecting tires, which are objects where rainwater is stored and represent an ideal place for mosquitoes to develop.
In 2025 there were twelve deaths from this disease, while in 2026 there have been no deaths, so citizens and municipalities will continue to work in a coordinated manner to prevent the proliferation of the mosquito that transmits the disease.
