The historic Postal Palace will host the exhibition “The Son of the People”, 40 pieces to celebrate the centenary of the birth of the Guanajuato composer.

One hundred years after his birth, the life and work of Jose Alfredo Jimenez meet again with Mexico at the Postal Palace, through the exhibition “The Son of the People”, a commemorative exhibit that brings together 40 pieces to remember the composer from Guanajuato who turned his stories, feelings and roots into part of the collective memory of the country.
For the People’s Government of Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, the exhibit “The Son of the People” allows visitors to get closer not only to the artist, but also to the man behind the songs, through photographs, letters, telegrams, and family memories.
Among the pieces is even a photo of Jose Alfredo with his daughter Paloma Jimenez Galvez during the celebration of her quinceanera in 1969. Therefore, the exhibition also offers a space historically associated with the exchange of letters and messages, since Jose Alfredo’s songs have made a similar journey for decades: from person to person, from generation to generation, and from Dolores Hidalgo to Mexico and the world.
The Secretary of Tourism and Identity (SECTURI) reiterated the honor it is for Guanajuato to inaugurate the exhibition “The Son of the People”.
One hundred years ago, on January 19, 1926, a boy was born in Dolores Hidalgo who would eventually become one of the voices with which Mexico learned to express its feelings.
And indeed, “The Son of the People” was born where the nation began. That’s why Jose Alfredo is much more than the King of Ranchera Music. He is a native of Guanajuato who transformed love, heartbreak, pride, longing, and his deep connection to his homeland into songs that today form part of Mexico’s collective memory.
This exhibit brings us closer to the artist through photographs, letters, telegrams and family memories; his own daughter Paloma has described her father’s songs as “open, wandering letters”.
The son of the people brings together 40 pieces that allow us to explore his life and discover the child, the footballer, the father, the man who wrote letters and telegrams and, finally, the artist who conquered radio, film and the great stages.
