More than 1.7 million students in Guanajuato are returning to classrooms, with 98,000 teachers in more than 13,000 schools

“We are officially starting this 2026–2027 school year. More than 1.7 million students throughout the State are returning, and they are not returning alone. They will be accompanied by 98,000 teachers in more than 13,000 schools in every corner of Guanajuato,” said Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, as she led the back-to-school ceremony at Urban Primary School No. 23 Ford No. 1.

Of the total number of students returning to classes in Guanajuato:

  • More than 1,245,597 are students of basic education
  • More than 59,759 teachers and education staff
  • 11,614 schools
  • The State school calendar consists of 185 days of learning, oriented to attendance, permanence and recovery of learning

Governor Libia Dennise said that, in this return to classes, 581,494 public elementary school students are receiving school supply kits and backpacks to start this new school year, with an investment of nearly 322 million pesos.

“This day is so important for the People’s Government and we want you to feel pampered. This school year, our girls and boys in public elementary schools are returning to classes with the backpacks and school supplies that we have been distributing throughout the State,” the State Governor emphasized.

Furthermore, at this education institution, the site of the official start of the school year, a project was delivered that benefits 490 students from both shifts, due to structural damage and the end of the useful life of the old modules, the facilities were replaced with a contracted investment of 18.6 million pesos.

The works included two new modules with 15 classrooms, a multipurpose room, a USAER classroom to support inclusion, stairs, perimeter fence, portico and access ramps.

During 2026, 1.014 billion pesos will be allocated to new schools, expansions, the Guanajuato Comprehensive High Schools (BIG), and maintenance projects. In addition, over 7,000 spaces and 58 new high school options will be opened in upper secondary education, including 40 new BIG programs, which will raise coverage to 82 percent and offer alternatives for more young students to continue their studies.
