The Governor of the People, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, launched the rehabilitation and reconfiguration work of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (PTAR) on the road to Pueblo Nuevo, in Irapuato.

“In Guanajuato, we will continue to bet in water projects. This is one of the most important projects that this Municipal Administration and this State Administration will undertake, because we are investing in the future of Guanajuato. Water in Guanajuato is not only cared for, it is protected and invested in so that it is available for future generations,” said Governor Libia Dennise.

This project will directly benefit approximately 370,000 residents in the southern part of the municipality, improving water quality, reducing health risks, and contributing to the cleanup of the Lerma River. Furthermore, it opens the door to the reuse of treated water in industrial processes, green spaces, and agriculture, with the goal of utilizing 100 percent of it.
The investment allocated to this project is more than 463.1 million pesos, the result of a joint effort between the People’s Government, which contributes 40 percent (185.2 million pesos), and the Municipality, with 60 percent (277.8 million pesos).

These actions seek to guarantee the human right to water, improve its efficient use, especially in rural areas where 76% of consumption is concentrated, and ensure supply for future generations.
With a treatment capacity of 500 liters per second and activated sludge technology, it will efficiently address the city’s wastewater, adding to the existing capacity of other plants to cover 100% of the flow generated in Irapuato.

In Guanajuato, there is currently infrastructure that allows for the treatment of 95 percent of the wastewater generated at the State.
This new plant represents a concrete step towards a more sustainable Guanajuato and Irapuato, where water is cared for, cleaned, reused and valued.
