Promoting economic development from the local level, strengthening micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as generating more opportunities for Guanajuatense families, are part of the strategy promoted by the Coordinator for the Promotion of Foreign Trade (COFOCE) through commercial linkage actions with international buyers.

As part of this effort COFOCE organized a four-day business agenda to receive an international buyer from the state of Oregon, United States, representing the company Cactus Canyon Ceramics, a firm specializing in the marketing of artisanal and ceramic products that seeks to develop new Mexican suppliers to meet the growing demand of its different sales channels.

The US company primarily markets through digital platforms such as Amazon, in addition to having a presence in Walmart, direct sales through its website, social media, and operations as a wholesale importer.

During his visit to Guanajuato, the buyer held business meetings with 11 artisan companies from Dolores Hidalgo, where he learned firsthand about the quality, production capacity and value proposition of the Guanajuatense workshops that presented a wide range of artisan pieces with potential to reach the international market.

These actions are part of the vision of the People’s Government, led by Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, to strengthen the competitiveness of Guanajuatense companies, promote the growth of MSMEs and generate greater opportunities for economic development and well-being through the internationalization of products made in Guanajuato.

In addition to the design and authenticity of the pieces, the businessman shared that he is currently looking for suppliers that meet the standards demanded by the US market, including manufacturing processes with lead-free products, high quality controls, consumer safety, and the ability to handle export orders.

“I am impressed by the work of Erika and COFOCE in facilitating access to the factories for us, it has exceeded everyone’s expectations, almost all the factories are beyond what I was thinking, they are very capable, very well prepared, they work very well,” said Steven McCann, international buyer.

“It’s a great opportunity to connect with COFOCE because they make it easier to find other markets. I found it difficult to find foreign clients, and you make that possible. I’m also learning from these visits how to serve them, because it’s not the same as here in Mexico. So I think it’s been a great opportunity to connect with COFOCE. I’m learning a lot and I’m very happy with all the information you’ve given me,” said Dulce Maria Gonzalez, a businesswoman from Dulart.

COFOCE continues to strengthen the internationalization of Guanajuatense companies, boosting the growth of the artisan sector, promoting regional economic development, and generating greater employment opportunities and well-being for families in Guanajuato.
