More than one million women without health insurance make up the target population for screening actions

Guanajuato/Gto News

The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato is promoting actions for the promotion, prevention, and early detection of breast cancer in Guanajuato, in order to facilitate the early identification of this disease and provide access to timely medical care.

In Guanajuato, the population without health insurance amounts to 3 million 834 thousand 816 people, of which 1 million 955 thousand 282 are women.

Of this universe, 1,008,903 women between the ages of 25 and 69 are the target population of the Secretary of Health of Guanajuato for screening during 2026.

As part of this strategy, clinical breast examinations were established this year for 480,974 women between the ages of 25 and 39 without health insurance, while 527,929 women between the ages of 40 and 69 make up the target population for screening mammograms.

Gabriel Cortes Alcala, Secretary of Health of Guanajuato, said that among the main actions are information campaigns to promote breast self-examination, publicize risk factors and provide guidance on the signs and symptoms that may be associated with breast cancer.

Breast self-examination allows women to become familiar with the normal characteristics of their breasts and to be aware of any changes that may require medical evaluation. Identifying abnormalities such as lumps, skin changes, nipple changes, or unusual discharge is important for seeking professional care without delay.

For women aged 40 to 69, screening mammography is a fundamental tool, as it allows for the detection of changes in breast tissue, even before they can be perceived through physical examination. This study should be performed according to the instructions of the health personnel, based on the age and conditions of each woman.

The Secretary called on women to participate in screening efforts, visit their medical units for guidance, and not ignore any unusual changes in their breasts.

Early detection can help start treatment promptly and improve the chances of successful care.
