The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato reports an 80 percent reduction in confirmed dengue cases compared to the same period last year, thanks to the comprehensive strategy of prevention, surveillance and control of the transmitting mosquito.
The Secretary of Health, Gabriel Cortes Alcala, noted that during the current year 56 cases of dengue have been confirmed, while in the same period of 2025 there were 270 cases.
The municipalities with the highest number of confirmed cases during 2026 are Leon with 44 cases, Moroleon with 6, Uriangato with 4, Valle de Santiago with 1 and Celaya with 1, so preventive and control actions continue to be reinforced in these localities to prevent the spread of the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
All cases have recovered satisfactorily and without further complications.
Cortes Alcala said that the Secretary of Health of Guanajuato maintains permanent Epidemiological Surveillance, a strategy that allows the timely identification of suspected and confirmed cases, in order to understand the behavior of the disease and direct the vector control actions in risk areas.
As part of the elimination of breeding grounds for the transmitting mosquito, State campaigns are being developed to remove potential breeding sites, through cleaning days in neighborhoods and communities, in coordination with municipal governments and cleaning services, removing objects that accumulate water and favor the reproduction of the vector.
In addition, health promotion actions are strengthened through the formation of school committees, training in education institutions and community work to promote the “Wash, Cover, Turn Over and Throw Away” strategy, aimed at eliminating containers that can become mosquito breeding grounds.
Additionally, health personnel disseminate personal protection actions among the population, such as the use of repellent, wearing long-sleeved clothing when possible, installing mosquito nets, and keeping patios and rooftops free of containers that accumulate water. The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato urges the population to maintain community participation in preventive actions, since the elimination of breeding grounds within homes represents the most effective measure to prevent the reproduction of the mosquito that transmits dengue and other arboviruses.
