Guanajuato/Gto News

The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato, Gabriel Cortes Alcala, recognized the act of love and solidarity of the family of 14-year-old Jose Cruz Jaramillo Diaz for saving the lives of 5 patients on the waiting list for a transplant.

Originally from the municipality of Romita, affectionately known as Crucito, the boy was a junior high school student, loving son and brother who always sought the well-being of his loved ones.

After suffering a tragic accident, Crucito left his family facing one of the most painful moments of their lives.

However, amidst the sadness, his parents made a profoundly generous decision: to donate his organs to give hope and a new opportunity of life to other patients, including girls and boys awaiting a transplant.

Since Friday night and this Saturday, the Hospital de la Gente in Leon, under the auspices of the Secretary of Health of Guanajuato, activated ” Life Code,” a new hope for life through organ donation and transplantation, thanks to the willingness of a family that, even in the midst of grief, decided to share life.

As part of this process, the organs were allocated to the following receiving institutions:

  • The heart was transported by air from Guanajuato to the National Institute of Cardiology Ignacio Chavez
  • Both lungs to the National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition Salvador Zubiran
  • One kidney to the Pediatric Specialty Hospital of Leon
  • Another kidney to the Federico Gomez Children’s Hospital of Mexico

The process involves the participation and coordination of the Guanajuato State Transplant Center (CETRA), whose work contributes to strengthen the culture of donation and making it possible for organs to reach those who need them.

The story of Crucito reminds us that organ donation is one of the deepest expressions of human generosity, the health secretary noted.

Behind every donated organ is a family facing a loss and, at the same time, giving other families the chance to regain hope.

The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato acknowledges the generosity of the family of Crucito and expresses the most sincere condolences for this irreparable loss, and thanks the corporations involved in the transfer of the organs, as is the case of the State Emergency System (SUEG).
