The Centennial Stories initiative is consolidating its success by already registering 100 people aged 100 and over in the State; however, the search continues to locate and recognize more women and men who represent the living memory of Guanajuato.

Driven by the State DIF System, the initiative, which is part of its Comprehensive Care System, aims to recognize the history, experience and legacy of older people who have reached or are about to reach 100 years of age or more, as well as to strengthen actions directed to this important sector of the population.

Currently, the state registry is made up of 69 women and 31 men from 25 municipalities in the State, among which the following stand out with the most registered people: Leon, Guanajuato City, Silao, San Felipe, Irapuato, Dolores Hidalgo, among other.

According to the information gathered, the oldest person registered to date is 107 years old and resides in Leon. Furthermore, as part of this institutional effort, 40 home visits have been conducted as of June 30th to learn more about the life stories of the participants.

Under the vision of the President of the Advisory Council of the State DIF System, Juan Carlos Montesinos Carranza, the DIF System seeks to directly reach out to older people to recognize them in their homes, listen to their testimonies and strengthen social recognition towards those who have been witnesses and protagonists of the transformation of Guanajuato for more than a century.

“Centenarians represent an invaluable legacy for our State; their stories hold the memory, teachings, and values that have given identity to our communities. Recognizing them is also recognizing their contribution to Guanajuato and the example they represent for new generations,” said Juan Carlos Montesinos.
