Guanajuato continues to demonstrate that the talent, innovation, and hard work of its people transcend borders. During the first quarter of 2026, the State registered a 9.8 percent year-over-year growth in its exports, solidifying its position as one of the main drivers of foreign trade in Mexico and strengthening opportunities for Guanajuatense businesses and families.

According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), during this period Guanajuatense companies exported 10 billion 21 million dollars, representing an annual growth of 9.8 percent compared to the same period in 2025 and a share of 6.3 percent of total national exports.

These exports were driven by 1,418 exporting companies, 78 percent of which are micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). Their products reached 113 countries, confirming the international reach and competitiveness of the economy of Guanajuato.
Beyond economic indicators, these results reflect the efforts of thousands of businesses and individuals who drive Guanajuato’s development every day. Each product that reaches an international market represents more opportunities for companies, greater competitiveness for the State, and more jobs for Guanajuatense families.

Guanajuato’s international presence continues to strengthen through a market diversification strategy. Although the United States and Canada account for 91.4 % of export value, significant growth has been observed in countries such as Guatemala, Colombia, Australia, and the United Kingdom, reflecting the opening of new business opportunities for companies in the State.

The dynamism of exports is also reflected in the diversification of productive sectors. Vehicles and auto parts continue to be the main driver of State exports, representing 70.9 percent of the total; while sectors such as fashion, construction materials, health, beauty, and aerospace registered significant growth during the quarter, strengthening Guanajuato’s competitiveness in various international markets.

Export activity reached 26 municipalities in Guanajuato. Leon remains the municipality with the highest number of exporting companies, with 621, while Villagran registered the highest percentage growth for the quarter.
Guanajuato is the only State in Mexico with a specialized agency dedicated to promote foreign trade through the Foreign Trade Promotion Coordinator (COFOCE).
