The People’s Government, through the Secretary of Human Rights, launched a new trip of the Silver Miners program, with the departure of a group to Charlotte, North Carolina, where elderly people from Guanajuato will reunite with their migrant children and relatives after several years of separation.

The 23 beneficiaries are originally from the municipalities of:

  • Acambaro, Celaya, Comonfort, Huanimaro, Irapuato, Moroleon, San Luis de la Paz and Yuriria

They travel with personnel from the Secretary of Human Rights, led by its head, Liz Alejandra Esparza Frausto, to guarantee a safe transfer and provide them with support throughout the family reunification process.

This trip is supported by Club Vecinos Unidos, an organization of Guanajuatense migrants based in Charlotte, North Carolina, whose commitment strengthens the bonds between migrant communities and their municipalities of origin, making it possible for more families to reunite.

Esparza Frausto noted that Mineros de Plata represents one of the most humane public policies of the People’s Government, by placing people and families at the center of government action.

“Each trip organized by Mineros de Plata, a very humane and beautiful program, represents much more than an international transfer; it means giving our senior citizens the opportunity to embrace their loved ones again. In the People’s Government, we work to ensure that distance is never stronger than the love of a family,” said Esparza Frausto.

The head of the agency recalled that this program, promoted by Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, promotes family reunification through comprehensive support to obtain immigration documents, visa processing, and accompaniment during international journeys, allowing older adults to travel with peace of mind and certainty.

In 2026, the program includes 11 groups to benefit with a total of 266 senior citizens from municipalities throughout Guanajuato, with destinations in California, Texas, Georgia, Illinois and North Carolina, strengthening the affective ties between Guanajuatense families that for years remained separated by migration.

“Mineros de Plata demonstrates that governing also means supporting. Each reunion strengthens family ties, honors the efforts of our migrant communities, and reaffirms that we never forget who we are here for,” said Esparza.

The People’s Government strengthens the bond between Guanajuatense communities residing in the United States and their places of origin, promoting a public policy that transcends borders to guarantee the right to family reunification.
