Secretatry of Culture of the People’s Government is participating in the international exhibition “Diego Rivera and the Construction of Modern Art in Mexico in the 20th Century,” which will be presented from June 19 to December 13, 2026, at the Capitoline Museums–Villa Caffarelli, in Rome, Italy.
The exhibit will bring together more than 140 works by Diego Rivera and other key artists in the development of Mexican artistic modernity, including Jose Maria Velasco, Dr. Atl, Frida Kahlo, Jose Clemente Orozco, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Maria Izquierdo, Rufino Tamayo, and Carlos Merida.
Guanajuato’s participation in this international project stems from an invitation made directly by the Capitoline Museums to the Secretary of Culture of the People’s Government, in recognition of the relevance of the artistic collection safeguarded by the Diego Rivera House Museum and its contribution to the conservation and dissemination of Mexico’s cultural heritage.
This collaboration will allow works from the Marte R. Gomez Collection, under the care of the Diego Rivera House Museum, to be part of a curatorial tour that explores the role of Diego Rivera in the construction of Mexican artistic modernity and his influence in the consolidation of a cultural identity with international projection.
