Technification of the Irrigation District and construction of the Solis Aqueduct will not affect water volumes for users of Irrigation District 011 or producers and farmers in the region
Authorities increase their effort to guarantee water efficiency and progress for producers and farmers in Guanajuato
Guanajuato/Gto News
The “Government of the People,” through the Secretary of Water and Environment, is working permanently to improve the quality of life for the residents of all municipalities in Guanajuato.

An example of this coordinated, team effort is the project to modernize Irrigation District 011 and the construction of the Solis-Leon Aqueduct, which will consolidate water efficiency in the fields for the producers and farmers in this region of Guanajuato.
The water savings generated by this technification will then supply the vital liquid to consumers in the municipalities of Celaya, Salamanca, Irapuato, Silao, and Leon.

It was stressed that no additional water will be used; instead, the existing water supply will be used and managed more effectively without affecting any sector of the population.
With the modernization of Irrigation District 011, users will gain modern, efficient infrastructure that allows for better productivity and greater development in their activities.
Technification involves making efficient use of water in the fields through the incorporation of innovative technologies and the modernization of infrastructure for agricultural use, for example training and technical assistance, lining canals, and installing on-farm irrigation systems, such as drip or sprinkler irrigation.

The technification of Irrigation District 011 will involve an investment of $6,412.2 million pesos and is expected to recover up to 120 million cubic meters of water. Work will be carried out across 10,200 hectares and 240 kilometers of canals, benefiting 25,000 producers and consolidating a decrease in water consumption.
This recovered volume will be distributed through an aqueduct approximately 187 kilometers long, with an investment of 15 billion pesos, half of which will be contributed by the Federal Government and the other half by the State.

The salvaged water will be delivered to the municipalities of Celaya, Salamanca, Irapuato, Silao, and Leon, which are supplied with sources 100% dependent on groundwater (wells), with the exception of Leon, where only 3% of the water comes from surface sources via the Palote dam.
The construction of the Aqueduct and the Field Technification are technically well-supported, endorsed by CONAGUA (Mexico’s National Water Commission), and respect the rights of all the members within the Basin.

The goal of these projects, which are part of the National Agreement for the Human Right to Water and Sustainability, is to ensure the public receives water with the greatest possible efficiency in terms of quantity, quality, and opportunity.
With the Solis technification and aqueduct, the “Government of the People” works to improve the quality of life for families and, above all, to ensure they have the necessary tools for their progress and well-being.
The “Government of the People” reaffirms its commitment that there will be no impact on water volumes for farmers and producers, promising continued support because they are an essential part of ensuring the prosperity of the families of Guanajuato.
