The Guanajuato wine industry is consolidating with the celebration of the 2025 Guanajuato Grape Harvest Festival. An activity that has maintained a sustained growth over the past 15 years.

This year, the grape festivals will be held in six municipalities:
- Leon, Comonfort, San Miguel de Allende, Dolores Hidalgo CIN, Silao, and San Felipe

More than 11.6 million pesos in economic revenue are expected, according to organizers, and 12,000 people will attend, according to Maria Guadalupe Robles Leon, Secretary of Tourism and Identity.
“The grape harvest season representsmuch more than a harvest: it’s a celebration of the land, the work of our wineries, our identity, and the flavor of Guanajuato. The Guanajuatense wine is no longer a promise: it’s a reality that generates jobs, economic benefits, and pride. It has established itself as a symbol of quality, tradition, and modernity,” emphasized the head of tourism for the Valle de la Independencia.

In the event, the international recognition granted to the San Miguel Vineyard was celebrated, having obtained Mexico’s only gold medal at the prestigious Decanter World Wine Awards competition, held in London.
With an average altitude of 2,000 meters above sea level, Guanajuato boasts the highest vineyard in the country, located in the State capital at 2,340 meters above sea level. This characteristic helps mitigate the effects of climate change and develop expressive and elegant wines, increasingly appreciated by sommeliers and consumers.

“In recognition of the development of the wine sector in Guanajuato, currently the fourth largest producer of wine and fifth largest producer of wine grapes in Mexico, the Association of Mexican Sommeliers has announced that Guanajuato will host International Sommelier Day in 2026. And we are already working to ensure that, in 2027, our State will host the Spirits Selection by CMB event, one of the most important international spirits competitions,” said Lupitas Robles Leon.
In addition to international recognition, an estimated economic impact of 600 million pesos was reported from wine sales, in addition to an additional 240 million in tax revenue from excise taxes and VAT.

The Grape and Wine Association AC also called for people to experience the upcoming grape harvest festivals as a space that combines wine culture with recreational, tourism, and productive activities.
