The Guanajuato State Music Band brought the sound heritage of the State of Guanajuato to the San Lazaro Legislative Palace in Mexico City with the concert “100 Years of Jose Alfredo”, held as part of the 2026 State Orchestras Cycle.

The legislative building was packed during the presentation, in which attendees enjoyed a musical journey through some of Jose Alfredo Jimenez’s most emblematic compositions, on a night that celebrated the identity, memory and cultural legacy of Guanajuato.

Lizeth Galvan Cortes, Secretary of Culture of Guanajuato, acknowledged Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo’s drive towards a cultural vision centered on people and the strengthening of identity.
“From Guanajuato, we reaffirm a vision: culture as a space for encounter, as a living force that unites us, and as a path to build community. Today, the Guanajuato State Band performs as part of the 2026 State Orchestras Cycle, an opportunity we are grateful for and which we are taking advantage of to share who we are, to build bridges, and to recognize the cultural treasures that resides in each State of Mexico,” said Galvan Cortes.

Present were Paloma Jimenez Galvez and Jose Alfredo Jimanez Medel, children of the Guanajuatense composer, accompanying this tribute dedicated to the centenary of the birth of Jose Alfredo Jimenez.
“Jose Alfredo Jimenez’s work transcends generations because of his ability to condense the deepest emotions of human beings, the presentation of the Guanajuato State Music Band celebrates the talent and cultural treasures of the State of Guanajuato, a land of history, art, and tradition,” said Aliza Klip Moshinsky, Secretary of Administrative and Financial Services for the House of Representatives.

The House of Representatives presented awards to Lizeth Galvan Cortes, Secretary of Culture of Guanajuato; to Maestro Adalberto Tovar, Director of the Band; to soprano Carolina Herrera; as well as to the Guanajuato State Music Band and each of its members, in gratitude for taking Guanajuato’s culture beyond its territory and sharing it with the public of the Capital City of Mexico.
The concert paid tribute to the centenary of Jose Alfredo Jimenez, one of the most representative figures of Mexican music, whose work was reinterpreted by the Band under the artistic direction of maestro Adalberto Tovar.

The Guanajuato State Band was officially established in 1855 and is considered one of the oldest musical groups in Mexico and Latin America. Throughout its history, it has accompanied traditions, civic ceremonies, and emblematic events in the State of Guanajuato, solidifying its position as a living symbol of cultural identity.
In recognition of its history and cultural contribution, the group was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of the State of Guanajuato in December 2022.
