The Ministry of Health shows a 57.7% reduction in the maternal mortality rate from 2020 to date. At the moment the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) is at 16.7 cases per 100,000 live births.

While 37 deaths were recorded in 2020, by the end of 2025 there was a decrease of 57.7 percent, reflecting the coordinated work and actions implemented in favor of maternal and child health in a Network of 16 General Hospitals, 19 Community Hospitals and 4 Maternity Hospitals.

The Secretary of Health, Gabriel Cortes Alcala, reported that the health care of mothers in Guanajuato is a task that is carried out every day with responsibility, pride and a deep vocation for service.
Cortes explained that maternal-fetal health is a key indicator of human development and the performance of health systems, as it reflects social equity, accessibility, and the quality of medical services.

The Secretary noted that a strategic priority is to guarantee safe pregnancies, births and postpartum periods, as well as a healthy start in life for newborns.
Maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity are largely preventable, because each death represents not only a family tragedy, but also a structural challenge in public health, which is why addressing it remains fundamental.

The health secretary added that the Maternal and Perinatal Health Program is being strengthened, to provide information, as well as to implement actions that promote healthy pregnancies, safe deliveries and postpartum periods in optimal conditions.
This program allows for the prevention, detection, and timely treatment of complications, avoidance of long-term effects, and reduction of risks that could lead to maternal death.
The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato reiterated its commitment to continue promoting actions and timely information that contribute to the protection of women’s health, ensuring that every mother receives dignified, safe, and quality care at every stage of her pregnancy.
