Guanajuato/Gto News
Starting this Tuesday, November 3, public and private elementary and middle schools in Guanajuato must restrict the use of cell phones and other personal electronic devices during the school day.

The measure aims to improve learning conditions and promote the integral development of children and adolescents.
With fewer distractions in the classroom, the aim is for students to have more opportunities to concentrate, learn and socialize, as well as dedicate more time to activities such as reading, writing, playing and creativity.

The Secretary of Education of Guanajuato (SEG) spearheaded the development of guidelines to regulate the use of these devices, in accordance with the reform of the state Education Law and national regulations. This process involved dialogue and participation from education authorities and communities.
The Secretary of Education of Guanajuato, Luis Ignacio Sanchez Gomez, noted that this action will strengthen learning and recover spaces for coexistence that contribute to the emotional and social well-being of students.

– The new regulations will be enforced according to the education level. In preschool, primary, and secondary school, the use of cell phones will not be permitted during the school day both in classes and during breaks. In upper secondary education, they may only be used when they are part of academic activities previously planned and authorized by the education institutions, while in higher education each institution will establish the conditions for their use, in accordance with its own regulations.
The Secretary of Education (SEG) is calling on mothers, fathers, and guardians to support this initiative from home by promoting healthy digital habits and preventing their children from bringing cell phones to school. As part of this commitment, families will be asked to sign a letter of responsibility to support compliance with the new regulations.

Although the regulations take effect on November 3, an estimated two- to three-month adaptation period is planned. During this time, education authorities, administrators, teachers, and families will work together to facilitate their implementation in schools.
The approach will be primarily educational and preventative, prioritizing dialogue, guidance and the building of agreements, rather than sanctions.

Guanajuato is working to make schools spaces where minors and adolescents can concentrate on their studies, develop their creativity, strengthen their friendships and enjoy a closer coexistence.
