Guanajuato brought to a close its program as guest State off the 20th Festival of Life and Death Traditions of Xcaret, with a presentation dedicated to share the trades, flavors, artistic expressions and traditions that keep the identity of its communities alive.

During the Festival, the program includes two monumental altars, four regional altars and the monumental carpet made by master carpet makers from Uriangato.

The facilities allow visitors to learn about elements of the historical, artisanal and gastronomic heritage of the seven tourist regions of the State, from Tunal Grande and the Sierra del Huapango to the Independence Center, the Tequila Land, Laja Bajio and the municipalities of the South.

The gastronomic representation gives visibility to traditional cooks from different municipalities, with recipes linked to the Otomi and Chichimeca-Jonaz cultures, the products of the countryside and the traditions of the Day of the Dead.

Through Marca Guanajuato, visitors can also discover products made of ceramics, wood, leather, jewelry, textiles, candles and food produced by companies and workshops in Guanajuatense communities.

The workshop program allows participants to learn about the making of ceremonial tortillas from Comonfort, molcajete salsas, traditional bread from Acambaro, Lupitas Dolls, scaled candles, and pre-Hispanic seals linked to the Chupicuaro culture.

Among the participants are Maria del Consuelo Venancio, bearer of the tradition of the ceremonial tortilla; Elizabeth Jaralillo, linked to molcajete salsas; Daniel Casas, related to the traditional bread workshop of Acambaro; Citlali Villanueva Arredondo, of contemporary papier-mache; and Professor Rafael Alejandro Andrade Hernandez, responsible for proposals on the archaeological memory of Chupicuaro.

The program also includes the exhibition of large-format traditional toys, with references to the work “La Muerte Voladora” by Monica Torres de Corazon Negro.

The artistic program brings together the talent of the University of Guanajuato, the University Theater, the musical expressions of the Sierra Gorda and contemporary dance.

This presence is linked to a tourism policy that recognizes communities as protagonists and seeks to strengthen the cultural experiences of the six Magic Towns, the two World Heritage Cities, the seven Charms of Guanajuato and the other destinations that make up the state.

The People’s Government, led by Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, is promoting initiatives to give greater visibility to cultural heritage and to ensure that tourism contributes to generate opportunities for families. Therefore, the Secretary of Tourism and Identity (SECTURI) reaffirms its commitment to tourism promotion that allows visitors to experience cultural expressions in their places of origin and strengthens regional identity.
