Members of COPARMEX received training on existing extortion methods and the protocols they can apply
Citizen trust and reporting have made it possible to avoid payments to criminal groups for more than 94 million pesos

The Anti-Extortion Squad of the Secretary of Security and Peace gave a preventive talk on the existing protocols against this crime to members and new partners of the Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (COPARMEX) Irapuato-Salamanca.

The talk “Business Protection: Key Strategies of the Anti-Extortion Squad” was attended by approximately 70 business owners and representatives of the private sector, who received preventative information on the main forms of this crime, as well as tools to act in a timely and safe manner.

Commissioner Angel Castillo Barcenas, head of the squad, addressed the different types of extortion:
- Telephone, in-person, and virtual kidnapping
- Also the protocols for identification, reaction, and reporting
- Reinforcement of the importance of maintaining immediate communication with authorities
- Preventing this crime from progressing
The training provided a space for direct dialogue between business owners and members of this specialized team, who addressed questions and concerns related to experiences, risks, and support mechanisms.

As part of the event, a businessman from Irapuato shared his testimony about the support he received from the Anti-Extortion Squad, highlighting the operational and psychological support provided after being a victim of this crime.
So far in the State Administration, 2,106 requests for support in cases of extortion have been addressed, and the payment of more than 94 million 410 thousand pesos to criminal groups has been avoided.

COPARMEX executives presented Commissioner Angel Castillo Barcenas with an award for his participation and contribution to crime prevention.
The Secretary of Security and Peace reaffirms its commitment to strengthen prevention, support, and assistance to victims of extortion, and invites citizens to report safely at:

- 089 for anonymous reporting
- 911 in case of emergency
