In an extraordinary meeting of the National Council of Education Authorities (CONAEDU), it was agreed that the 2025-2026 school calendar will remain in effect for basic and upper middle education schools. Therefore, the school year in Guanajuato will conclude on July 10, as indicated in the current calendar for the State of Guanajuato, which establishes 185 days of classes. Meanwhile, in upper secondary education, each education subsystem will continue with the dates planned in its academic program.

The decision prioritizes the right of children and adolescents to a comprehensive and continuous education and provides certainty to families, stability to school communities and conditions to complete the cycle with academic responsibility.

Following Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo’s call to review the proposal made within the CONAEDU last Thursday, May 7, the Secretary of Public Education responded promptly, sensitively, and openly, convening an extraordinary meeting in which State Education Authorities were heard and, after analysis, it was agreed to maintain the current calendar with the necessary flexibility to address the regional particularities of the country.
The head of the SEG, Luis Ignacio Sanchez Gomez, argued that a possible early adjustment could generate education inequality and mainly affect students in situations of greater vulnerability.

Sanchez said that altering the end of the school year could impact family dynamics and create additional pressure for teachers, administrators, and education authorities.
The Secretary of Education also emphasized that Guanajuato is not a World Cup host State and that high temperatures are situations that are addressed each year according to the circumstances of each school.

In that context, he noted that, at the instruction of the Governor of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, the state will maintain and reinforce academic activities during the final stretch of the school year; a crucial period for consolidating knowledge, conducting diagnostic assessments, and supporting the education progress of all students.
