The history of San Francisco de Acambaro began a new journey through Mexico with the issuance of the Commemorative Post Stamp for the 500th anniversary of its Legal Foundation, a symbol that will carry the identity, heritage and historical legacy of the oldest municipality in Guanajuato to different destinations in the country.

During the presentation at the historic Postal Palace, and representing the Governor of the People, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, the Secretary of Tourism and Identity, Maria Guadalupe Robles Leon, explained that this Post Stamp, as part of the commemoration of Acambaro’s 500th anniversary, is an opportunity to highlight the history, culture, and traditions of Guanajuato, as well as to promote the Municipality as a destination that deserves to be known and enjoyed.

“Few lands can boast 500 years with so many stories to tell. And today, all that legacy begins a new journey,” said the Secretary of Tourism and Identity of Guanajuato, who informed about the printing of 300,000 stamps that can reach the 191 countries served by the Mexican Postal Service.

The Secretary recalled that the memory of this land holds national moments, due to its railway vocation and its connection to Pre-Hispanic and Independent Mexico, because “Acambaro is heir to the extraordinary Chupicuaro culture ,” and it also housed the Headquarters of the Great Army of America when Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla received the appointment as Generalissimo of the Americas.
“Today we are not just presenting a stamp. Today we are putting 500 years of history into circulation. Because next September 19, Acambaro will celebrate five centuries since its legal founding, which ocurred on September 19, 1526. We are talking about the oldest municipality in Guanajuato, the first settlement in the territory that today makes up our State.”

“Because a stamp may seem small in size, but it can be enormous in meaning. It travels, communicates, crosses borders, reaches other hands and, over time, also becomes a testament to an era,” the Secretary said.

This printing is also part of an agenda for the 500th anniversary commemoration, which also includes the presentation of the lottery ticket, the commemorative coin, as well as the sculptures of the Baker and the Founders, and the Founders Festival: 500 Years of History in Acambaro, which will be held from September 17 to 19, 2026; all of these are a series of actions that seek to honor the symbols of Acambaro and project them towards new generations.
