The Secretary of Health is saving more lives in road accidents thanks to timely emergency services

Guanajuato/Gto News

The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato saves more lives in traffic accidents, thanks to timely emergency care and the response capacity of the State hospital network.

To provide immediate care in traffic accidents, the Secretary of Health of Guanajuato has the Guanajuato State Emergency System (SUEG), which works in coordination with other municipal emergency services in the State.

The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato, Gabriel Cortes Alcala, indicated that an analysis of deaths and injuries resulting from traffic accidents in the State reflects a favorable trend in the reduction of mortality compared to previous years.

The former is the result of the strengthening of pre-hospital care services, the professionalization of emergency personnel, and the specialized medical care provided in health units.

Throughout 2024, 1,018 deaths were recorded due to traffic accidents, while by the end of 2025 the figure had dropped to 969 deaths, representing 49 fewer deaths and a reduction of 4.8 percent compared to the previous year.

In the period from January to April 2026, 313 deaths due to traffic accidents have been recorded.

This behavior maintains a trend of relative containment of mortality, even though a significant number of accidents persists on the highways and roads of Guanajuato.

Regarding injuries resulting from traffic accidents, 29,704 people were injured in Guanajuato during 2025, while from January to April 2026, 9,976 injuries were recorded.

These indicators show that more and more people are receiving timely medical attention after suffering a road accident, improving their chances of recovery and survival.

The rapid activation of emergency services, specialized transport, and comprehensive care in hospitals have been key factors in achieving these results.

For the Secretary of Health, one of the main challenges continues to be the prevention of traffic accidents by strengthening road safety culture in coordination with related organisms, to promote respect for speed limits, the use of seat belts, the use of protective helmets for motorcyclists, and in all cases promoting a responsible driving.
