Guanajuato/Gto News

To reinforce the protection of the population against measles, the State Health Secretary reports the opening of 13 Macro Vaccination Centers and more than 450 application points throughout the territory.

Health Secretary Gabriel Cortes Alcala announced that 13 Macrocenters will be operational starting this weekend to reinforce vaccination efforts and maintain the State without active transmission of the virus in Guanajuato.

In addition, the distribution of doses will be intensified at Community Health Centers (Centro de Salud de la Gente), including CAISES (Comprehensive Health Care Centers), UMAPS (Primary Care Medical Units), Comprehensive Health Centers, and other high-traffic public locations. This will boost immunization efforts at over 450 regular vaccination sites used to supplement existing vaccination schedules.

Guanajuato remains second to last nationally in the number of confirmed cases.

The Government of the People led by Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo is committed to continuing its immunization policy as the most effective strategy against the virus.

The Health Secretary specified that the former CAISES facility in Silao will be a vaccination site this Saturday, February 14, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

This February 14th, vaccinations will be administered in the esplanade of the CAISES health center in the Benito Juarez neighborhood of Irapuato.

In Celaya, the Tienda del Sol store in the city center will be a vaccination site on February 14th from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and from Monday, February 16th to Friday, February 20th, doses will be administered at the same location from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Also in Celaya, vaccinations will be administered on Benito Juarez Street on Tuesday, February 24th, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

In Villagran, vaccinations will be reinforced at a mobile vaccination center that will be set up on Monday, February 16th, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the main square.

In Leon, vaccinations will be intensified tomorrow, Saturday, at the Leon 1 Sports Complex. In both municipalities, the hours will be from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

In the municipality of Apaseo el Grande, the Main Square will serve as a Macro-Center this Tuesday, February 17th, and Friday, February 20th, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Due to the dispersed population of Apaseo el Alto, five Macro-Centers have been established, all operating from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. In this municipality, the vaccination campaign begins on Monday, February 16th, and Wednesday, February 25th, at the Alameda Garden. Doses will also be administered at the Maria Enriqueta Kindergarten on February 16th, 20th, and Monday, February 23rd.

On February 17th, vaccination will be administered at the El Cuadrito Garden, and on February 19th, nursing staff will administer doses at the La Texanita store. Finally on February 20th, vaccinations will be administered at the Municipal Garden on Friday, February 20th, Thursday, February 26th, and Friday, February 27th.

The Secretary of Health explained that the zero dose would be administered to children aged 6 to 11 years only in cases of community transmission of the virus; this dose is not part of the basic vaccination schedule.

Vaccination focuses on children aged 1 to 9 years as follows: The first dose should be administered at 12 months of age, and a booster dose at 18 months and 6 years of age (if born before July 2020). It is important to check the Vaccination Card; if the schedule is not complete, a booster dose should be administered.

The measles vaccine should be administered to people aged 10 to 49 years if they did not receive any doses during childhood or if their schedule is incomplete.

The vaccine is contraindicated for pregnant women; therefore, it is important to verify that they have been vaccinated beforehand.

Furthermore, it is important for those over 50 to know that before the 1970s, there was high circulation of the virus, so it is very likely that those in this age group have either been infected or vaccinated, developing immunity.

To date, 413,205 doses have been administered in the 46 municipalities as of January 2025, and 219,195 doses are available at Community Health Centers and other medical units.

Among the basic actions we should all adopt are frequent handwashing with soap and water, cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces, and ensuring adequate ventilation of spaces to reduce the concentration of viral particles.

The following are the types of vaccines and schedules:

MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella):

  • Children from 12 months to 9 years old.
  • Schedule: 12 months, 18 months, and 6 years.
  • Schedules can be started or completed within this age range; under no circumstances should they be restarted.

Measles, Rubella (MR):

  • For individuals aged 10 to 49 years with no prior vaccination, incomplete vaccination, or unknown vaccination history.
  • Indicated for those who did not complete the MMR vaccination schedule in childhood or for whom there is no evidence of childhood vaccination.
