“Culture has always been transformative in people’s lives. We lived an experience that touched my heart, because we can work from all angles to generate peace in our population,” said Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, welcoming the broadcast of the Connecting with People program.

The State Governor spoke about the play, “The Other Othello,” a production presented at the Leon Center for Prevention and Social Reintegration (CEPRERESO), where incarcerated individuals performed.
This is a historic event, as this performance is part of the “Ruelas Project” of the 53rd edition of the International Cervantino Festival, which will take place next October.

“We have a great project, the Ruelas Project, which involves artistic expression, community theater, and reaching our population,” said the Governor.
Libia was with Lizeth Galvan Cortes, Secretary of Culture, and Julio Cesar Perez Ramirez, Director General of the Penitentiary System, to discuss the People’s Government’s efforts to bring art and culture to incarcerated people, with the goal of achieving true social reintegration.

Lizeth Galvan said that the Ruelas Project is a community theater initiative and one of the FIC’s flagship projects, recognizing the value of theater in building community and strengthening the social fabric.
“This work was recorded by TV4 and will be broadcast during the 53rd International Cervantino Festival, on October 16 and 17 at 6 p.m., don’t miss it,” the Secretary of Culture invited.

In addition to this staging, as part of the Ruelas Project, three projects reflecting the creative power of our State will be presented this year in the Plaza de San Roque:
- “The Eternal Feminine”, a text by Rosario Castellanos, performed by the Nuevo Valle de Moreno de Leon group
- “Fuente Ovejuna” by Lope de Vega, performed by the Cabras Community Theater of the Juan Xido de Abajo community in San Miguel de Allende
- “Close Your Eyes and Then… Imagine”, a collective creation by the San Ignacio group in San Luis de la Paz

“With these productions, the Secretary of Culture reaffirms its ties to the municipalities and revives community theater,” said Lizbeth Galvan.
The artistic disciplines brought to the penitentiary centers specifically through this agreement are:
- Plastic Arts, Cartoneria, Folk Dance and Latin Rhythms, Creative Writing, Music, Wood Carving, and Theater
