The Museo Iconografico del Quijote celebrates its 37th anniversary with a special cultural program with more than 27 activities that invite people to “dream like Don Quixote and live it in Guanajuato” as an analogy of the power of literature and art to inspire and transform lives, in homage to Eulalio Ferrer, founder of the museum and one of the most influential figures in culture and art in Mexico in the 20th century, who was inspired by the novel Don Quixote de la Mancha.
In November and December, the MIQ celebrates its nearly four decades with concerts, awards for national visual arts competitions and exhibitions of selected pieces, creative writing workshops and the debut of “Children’s Voices,” its new children’s musical project.
The celebration begins with the anniversary concert “A su aire” by the Bellas Artes Wind Quintet during the traditional MIQ Musical Thursdays on November 7 at 8:00 p.m., with a program of Mexican music for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn by national composers such as Eugenio Toussaint, Manuel Enríquez, Federico Ibarra and Arturo Márquez.
On November 21st at 8:00 p.m. the Ars Sonui Ensemble will perform a tribute concert of strings and winds to the French composer and pianist Louise Farrenc under the name “La gran Farrenc” to highlight her virtuosity.
In the visual arts, on November 15 at 5:00 p.m. they will celebrate the Awards Ceremony of the XXVIII National Visual Arts Contest in the engraving category , under the theme “Sancho Panza, governor of the island of Barataria” with the presentation of awards and the inauguration of the exhibition of 12 selected works by artists from all over Mexico, available until January 19, 2025.
On November 22 at 12:00, children will have their own celebration with the Awards Ceremony of the Children’s Artistic Contest in the collage category.
Both competitions were created by Eulalio Ferrer, the Fundacion Cervantina de Mexico AC in collaboration with the Government of the State of Guanajuato to promote Cervantes reading, artistic development from an early age and national artistic creation inspired by the novel Don Quixote that would feed the museum’s collection.
On November 9th at 11:00 a.m., the La Manchita children’s cultural center will host the awards ceremony for the III Literary Calaveritas Contest “Panteones de Don Quijote y Sancho Panza”.
In December, the Museo Iconografico del Quijote will present its new musical project, a choir of girls and boys called “Children’s Voices of the MIQ” with the goal of providing an opportunity for children in Guanajuato to develop artistically through singing.
The purpose of the museum is to keep alive the legacy of Eulalio Ferrer under the direction of the Government of the People and the Fundacion Cervantina de México AC to promote reading, literary and artistic creation inspired by the Cervantine universe.
