Guanajuato reports a 38.4 percent decrease in vehicle theft

Guanajuato reported a 38.4 percent decrease in vehicle theft, ranking 14th in Mexico, below the national average, according to official data published through the Executive Secretary of the National Public Security System, to September of this year.
The positive numbers are the result of the reinforcement of the surveillance and crime prevention operations, as well as to inhibit the commission of crimes against carriers in Municipalities, which are done by:
- Municipal Police
- General Coordination of the State Public Security Forces
- State Attorney General’s Office
- National Guard
- Mexican Army
- Federal Attorney General’s Office
- All part of the Safe Guanajuato Operation
These operations are intensified inside the cities, on State and Federal highways, the goa lis to prevent the commission of crimes and guarantee the safety of citizens; in addition to the complaints received through the 911 Emergency System, anonymous complaint at 089 and directly at the State Attorney General’s Office.
An important part is also to maintain prevention and thus avoid being a victim of a crime, so it is recommended to maintain the following measures:
- Use of alarms or padlocks
- When getting off from the vehicle always verify that it is properly closed and with the locks on
- Park on well-lit, busy streets
- Use guarded parking lots
- Before getting on and off the vehicle, make sure there are no suspicious people, hidden or lurking around your vehicle
- Drive with the locks on
- Keep the windows closed
- Preferably drive through busy and well lit places
- No hitch hiking on strangers
- Be careful not to leave the keys in the ignition
- Do not leave the vehicle running when opening garages and leaving the house, even if it is only for a moment
