The Governor of the People, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, participated in the National Reforestation Day, in the community of Trojes de Aguirre, with the purpose of adding Guanajuato to the environmental and forest restoration effort that was carried out simultaneously throughout Mexico.
“Here we are, joyfully participating in this great Reforestation Day. There is no greater motivation for this event than thinking about the planet we want to leave for our children. Because every tree and every plant is a promise of life for future generations,” said Libia Dennise, who was with the Secretary of Health of the Government of Mexico, David Kershenobich Stalnikowitz.
The Governor noted that today they are covering 4 hectares in the community of Trojes de Aguirre to plant 2,000 pinon pine and chapulixtle trees. These are ideal and very useful species for soil recovery because they are resilient, require little water, and thrive in degraded soils.
“But this effort goes even further in Guanajuato. In the State, we will be carrying out this initiative in seven areas, planting 4,580 trees across 265 hectares. Every tree and plant we plant is our way, in the People’s Government, of sealing our commitment to our land,” said Libia.
The goal of this National Reforestation Campaign is to plant 6.6 million trees and plants with the support of more than 235,000 people. It also includes direct seeding, pelleted seeds, and drone dispersal to restore forests, jungles, mangroves, scrublands, grasslands, and protected natural areas, said the Secretary of Health of the Mexican government.
Libia Dennise said that in Guanajuato, this work is being done on an ongoing basis. This year, the Forest Ecosystem Strengthening Program is underway, through which 150,000 native plants are being planted across 240 hectares in six municipalities. In this endeavor, we provide temporary employment to people from rural communities so they can participate in reforestation.
The Governor highlighted the excellent work done with CONAFOR, noting that through a landmark agreement, 116 million pesos are being invested. Of this amount, 60 million pesos are earmarked for restoring strategic areas such as the Bosque de Agua and the Río Laja; and the remaining 56 million pesos are for the conservation of over 19,000 hectares in our State.
“Today, with these actions, we want to send a powerful message to the people of Guanajuato. To tell them that this land we live on is our common home. We want to invite them to make a permanent commitment. Because every tree we plant is a hope for a better future,” the Governor said, thanking the Federal, State and Municipal institutions that participated in this event.
