Government, businesses, and academia align training and labor market needs to strengthen competitiveness promoting talent of Guanajuatenses

Leon/Gto News

Guanajuato is positioning itself as a benchmark in Mexico and Latin America by consolidating itself as the first State to recognize microcredentials in a normative and operational way as part of its education and productive model, a strategy that strengthens talent, boosts productivity and generates new development opportunities.

This progress, led by the People’s Governor, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, has promoted a comprehensive vision to close the gaps between academic training and the real needs of the productive sector, consolidating Guanajuato as a competitive State prepared for the challenges of the global economy.

Through the Secretary of Economy, the Government of Guanajuato has worked in a coordinated manner with the productive sector and the education sector through dialogue and co-creation exercises, which have made it possible to identify key skills, critical profiles and training needs in different industries.

As part of this strategy, the forums “The future of talent in Guanajuato” and “The talent your company needs” were held, spaces where education institutions, companies, business organizations and representatives of the 12 productive clusters of the State participated, with the objective of translating the demands of the labor market into more relevant, flexible and high quality training paths.

Currently, 65 different micro-credentials aligned with talent needs have been validated to be issued, highlighting areas such as administration and business, soft skills, engineering, information technologies and strategic sectors such as leather and footwear.

One of Guanajuato’s main differentiators is its regulatory framework, as it is the only State in Mexico and Latin America that recognizes microcredentials in the law, following the reform approved in April 2024 to the Education Law, Higher Education Law and Law for Economic Development and Competitiveness, a model that has been recognized by UNESCO.

Guanajuato guarantees the quality of microcredentials by establishing that only higher education institutions can issue them, ensuring academic rigor and trust for the productive sector.

In terms of relevance, the model incorporates the direct participation of the productive sectors, that define the required skills and competencies, allowing universities to design programs aligned with these needs, closing the gap between academic training and the labor market.

As a result, 860 people have been accredited in soft skills, with the participation of 90 companies and the collaboration of the Virtual University of the State of Guanajuato (UVEG), highlighting skills such as leadership, decision making, self-management and resilience.
