The Governor of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, held a work reunión with the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection of the Government of Mexico, Omar Garcia Harfuch, and with the head of the Executive Secretary of the National Public Security System, Marcela Figueroa Franco, to strengthen coordination between the Government of Guanajuato and the Federal Government in matters of security.

The Governor highlighted the progress achieved through joint work of the three levels of government, particularly in intelligence, operations and combating crimes that affect families and those who travel on the state’s highways.

“We will continue to strengthen our operational and intelligence presence, working as a team with the Federation, to continue the positive results in security matters, which have allowed us to reduce the incidence of homicides by 76% and cargo theft on highways by 21%,” said Libia Dennise.

The Governor expressed her gratitude for the Mexican government’s willingness and ongoing coordination in addressing security challenges and reiterated that combining capabilities, information, and intelligence between the Federal, State, and Municipal governments is essential to advance in peacebuilding in Guanajuato.

Libia Dennise highlighted that the daily average of victims of intentional homicide went from 12.7 to 3.1, representing a decrease of 76%.

The following results are reported from January to July 2026:

  • 4,966 people sentenced
  • 9,705 people linked to criminal proceedings
  • 16,877 people arrested
  • 740 long guns secured
  • 951 handguns secured
  • 600 motorcycles secured
  • 483 secured vehicles
  • 1 million 497 thousand 394 doses of marijuana seized
  • 5 million 125 thousand 511 doses of crystal meth seized

Libia Dennise explained that these advances are the result of a strategy that prioritizes coordination, intelligence, and joint operations, through the Operational Intelligence Group (GIO), in which institutions from all three levels of government participate.

“In Guanajuato, we understand that security requires coordination, intelligence, presence, and results. We will continue working as a team with the federal government and the municipalities, because the peace of mind of Guanajuato families is our priority,” said Libia Dennise.

As part of the agreements generated in the GIO, the Specialized Interinstitutional Group against Transportation Theft was created, a permanent coordination mechanism that allows joint operations, information exchange and the development of preventive strategies on both State and Federal highways.

This coordination has contributed to a 21% decrease in cargo thefts on federal highways in Guanajuato, from January to the first 10 days of August 2026.

In addition, during the first half of the year there was a 32% reduction in the theft of private vehicles on federal highways in the State. The Governor reiterated that Guanajuato will continue working in coordination with the Government of Mexico.
