The 8th Walnut and Quince Gastronomic Festival, held on August 22 and 23 in the Magic Town of Jalpa de Canovas, registered an estimated turnout of 19,000 visitors across its two days of activities.

On Saturday, the festival’s opening day, around 4,000 people arrived, while Sunday saw attendance surge to approximately 15,000. Visitors enjoyed authentic regional gastronomy, traditional products, handmade crafts, live music, cultural events, and family-friendly entertainment.

The Mayor of Purisima del Rincon, Roberto Garcia Urbano, highlighted that a primary objective of the Municipal Administration is to ensure tourism events create real opportunities for the local community.

“We have worked hard to continuously increase local participation in our events. We want our people to have platforms to sell their goods, promote their craft, and generate income. These events are designed so that the people of Purisima are the primary beneficiaries, while giving our guests the opportunity to discover everything we have to offer,” said the Mayor.

Garcia Urbano also acknowledged the support of the Secretary of Tourism and Identity of the State of Guanajuato (SECTURI) led by Maria Guadalupe Robles Leon, for maintaining close coordination with Purisima del Rincon and helping strengthen its tourism initiatives.

“We extend our gratitude to Minister Lupita Robles and her entire team for believing in Purisima and providing continuous support. The backing of the State Government enables us to keep promoting our events, strengthen our travel destinations, and generate more opportunities for our community through tourism,” said the Mayor.

The 2026 edition featured 92 participants including producers, artisans, merchants, entrepreneurs, and service providers. Of these, 71 are from Purisima del Rincon, representing 77.17% of the total. Jalpa de Canovas led local participation with 41 spaces, followed by the city of Purisima del Rincon with 23. Other participating communities included La Cintilla, San Angel, Pedernal, Canada, San Jeronimo, San Jose de la Presa, and Pradera/Canada de Soto.

Foreign exhibitors accounted for 19 spaces, arriving from neighboring municipalities such as Leon, San Francisco del Rincon, Romita, Dolores Hidalgo, Manuel Doblado, Celaya, Penjamo, and Santiago Maravatio. Additionally, two exhibitors joined from Calvillo, Aguascalientes, further enriching the gastronomic, artisanal, and cultural exchange between regions.

The Municipal Director of Tourism Roberto Camargo emphasized that these achievements reflect the commitment of all participants and a comprehensive year-round effort.

“Success is not measured only by visitor numbers, but by seeing our service providers well-prepared, offering higher quality service, and maximizing these opportunities”, said Camargo.

“Throughout the year, we have conducted training programs across various areas to elevate service standards and strengthen our hospitality culture. The result of each event reflects the dedication of everyone involved,” noted the Tourism Director.

Camargo also praised the coordinated work of municipal departments involved in planning, organization, security, cleanliness, logistics, and visitor assistance. Surveys conducted during the festival revealed that 66.4% of attendees were local residents while 33.6% were visiting travelers, demonstrating the event’s growing regional appeal.

Within Guanajuato, the origin of visitors are Leon and San Francisco del Rincon, alongside several other municipalities. Travelers also arrived from across Mexico, including Mexico City, Jalisco, State of Mexico, Queretaro, San Luis Potosi, Michoacan, and Nuevo Leon. International interest was equally evident, with guests arriving from the United States, Canada, Guatemala, Korea, and Japan.

With approximately 19,000 attendees and over 77% local exhibitor representation, the Walnut and Quince Gastronomic Festival reaffirms its core mission: preserving the traditions and identity of Jalpa de Canovas, attracting cultural travelers, and transforming tourism into sustainable economic development for the families of Purisima del Rincon.
