Amid shouts, flags, families gathered together and a single shared feeling, Guanajuato excitedly experienced the start of the biggest football party, with Mexico’s 2-0 victory against South Africa, a result that made people shout “¡gooal!” in the three venues of Fiesta Guanajuato:

From the Plaza Expiatorio in Leon, the Main Square in Dolores Hidalgo and the Civic Plaza in Yuriria, children, young people, families and visitors enjoyed the official authorized broadcast on giant screens, in safe, free spaces designed for social interaction.
The activation, promoted by the People’s Government, through the Secretary of Tourism and Identity (SECTURI) , is part of the strategy instructed by Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo to bring great experiences to the citizens, strengthen tourism promotion and project the identity of Guanajuato during this international soccer meeting.
The atmosphere was electric even before the opening whistle. Families arrived in green shirts, with painted faces, waving flags, and brimming with enthusiasm to support the national team. With each attack, the plazas erupted; and with each goal, the three venues joined in a single celebration.
“Fiesta México” not only brought football closer to the people; it transformed public spaces into meeting points, joy and pride, where sport was mixed with the promotion of destinations, cultural identity and family life.
The three venues offer high-definition LED screens, professional audio, rest areas, restrooms, security, continuous cleaning, power plants, protective fences, and tourist promotion spaces to ensure that attendees enjoy a comfortable, orderly, and safe experience.
“Today Guanajuato once again demonstrated its ability to welcome, connect, and celebrate with family. Fiesta Guanajuato is an experience for people to enjoy soccer, but also for our destinations to continue showcasing their greatness, their identity, and their capacity to build community,” said he Secretary of Tourism and Identity, Maria Guadalupe Robles Leon.
Thanks to coordinated work with the Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Guanajuato has official broadcasts in two Magical Towns: Dolores Hidalgo Cradle of National Independence and Yuriria.
The “Fiesta Mexico” event will run from June 11 to July 19, 2026, with the official broadcast of 50 matches. Of these, 35 are already scheduled, and 15 more will be determined as the competition progresses.
The People’s Government reaffirmed its commitment to promote experiences that strengthen identity, boost tourism, stimulate the local economy, create reunion spaces for Guanajuatense families, and open new paths.
