In the InnovaFest, a regional meeting of innovation, technology and entrepreneurship, the Bicentennial Polytechnic University (UPB) of Guanajuato received official recognition for obtaining two patent titles granted by the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI).

The award was presented by the head of the Federal Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, and the Governor of the State of Queretaro, Mauricio Kuri Gonzalez. On behalf of the institution, the award was received by the Rector of UPB, Ma Isabel Tinoco Torres, and the faculty member and developer, David Alejandro Perez Marquez.

The patents granted to the university correspond to two projects focused on sustainable innovation and energy use:
- Food dehydration system using solar energy: Solution aimed at the thermal processing of agricultural inputs using clean sources
- Self-cleaning solar tracking system for solar panels: Technological development designed to optimize energy efficiency and reduce maintenance costs in photovoltaic modules

InnovaFest is a nationwide initiative that brings together business sectors, investment funds, academia, and all three levels of government, with the purpose of connecting local talent with sources of capital and transforming technological ideas into viable business models.

This year, the event was held at the Querétaro Convention Center , where students of Industrial Design Engineering from UPB, guided by teacher Alfonso Islas, also shared two projects as exhibitors:
- INMERSIA and
- Automated Production Line

The Bicentennial Polytechnic University consolidates its commitment to applied research, the development of intellectual property and the transfer of technology in service of the country’s economic and environmental development.
