Triumph of 60 women against breast cancer is celebrated

Governor Libia Dennise attended the Pasarela de Vida 2026, a gathering of hope and recognition for women who are survivors and who are undergoing treatment

From January to September, the Guanajuato Health System performed more than 77,000 clinical examinations and 44,000 mammograms for timely detection

Amid applause, smiles, and tears of emotion, 60 women of different ages from Guanajuato walked the 2026 Life Runway, accompanied by the Governor of the People, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, who recognized their stories of strength and reaffirmed her commitment to maintain a public health system that provides quality medical care, treatments, medications, and support to those facing cancer.

At the Bicentennial Theater, during the commemoration of International Breast Cancer Awareness Day, the Governor shared the emotion of the families and medical staff who have supported these women throughout their recovery. Every step on stage was a celebration of life and a reminder of the importance of timely and accessible care.

“In Guanajuato, there is care, there is treatment, there are medications, there is support for people with cancer. Here, they don’t have to face this diagnosis alone,” said Libia Dennise.

The Governor called on women not to postpone their medical checkups due to fear, lack of time, or prioritizing the needs of their families, as early detection of breast cancer increases the chances of receiving effective treatment and recovery.

As part of this effort, from January to September 2026, the Secretary of Health of Guanajuato conducted 77,673 clinical breast exams for women aged 25 to 39 and 44,088 mammograms for women aged 40 to 69.

In addition, through the 2026 Breast Reconstruction Campaign, 27 surgical procedures and areola and nipple tattooing were performed on five women, actions that also contribute to restore the patients’ confidence and emotional well-being.

The Secretary of Health, Gabriel Cortes Alcala, emphasized that behind every diagnosis there is a story that deserves professional and human attention, and reiterated the commitment to strengthen timely detection and support during treatments.

Juan Carlos Montesinos Carranza, president of the Advisory Council of the State DIF System, recalled that taking care of one’s health should be a daily task and that the stories of these women are an inspiration to value life and support those going through difficult times.

Grisell Quiroz Romero, president of the State Committee of Foundations and Volunteer Organizations, explained that this fashion show was created to recognize women beyond their diagnosis, restore their confidence, and remind them that they are not alone.

The initiative, which originated in hospitals in Leon, expanded its reach this year to participants from various municipalities, with the support of volunteers, families, healthcare personnel, and designer Paco Granados.

The afternoon concluded with recognition of the 60 protagonists, whose stories moved the attendees and gave meaning to the Governor’s message: taking care of health also means listening, accompanying and giving hope to those facing an illness.

“Today this catwalk is not a fashion show, it is a parade of courage, hope and love for life,” said Libia Dennise.

This event was attended by local Legislators; members of the Legal and Extended Administration of the People’s Government; members of the City Council of Leon; volunteers; media, as well as family and friends of the participants in the Life Runway.
