San Miguel de Allende makes history again by being recognized for the third consecutive time the Best City in the World in the World’s Best Awards 2026 by Travel + Leisure, one of the most prestigious international tourism publications.
For the People’s Government of Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, and the Secretary of Tourism and Identity (SECTURI), this achievement reflects the preference of thousands of readers and international travelers, who distinguish San Miguel de Allende for:

- Its historical and architectural heritage
- Its cultural richness
- Its gastronomy
- Its wine tourism offer
- The hospitality of its people
Now in its 31st year, the World’s Best Awards continue to reflect the extraordinary experiences that you, our loyal readers, crave. This year’s survey cast more than 661,000 votes for city and island breaks, safari operators, airlines, and hotels around the world. Some winners have been consistent performers at these awards for more than two decades, while others are catching your eye for the first time, informs the publication.
The recognition comes at a particularly significant time for the destination, as on the eve of the results, San Miguel de Allende is hosting “Meeting Place Mexico 2026”, the most important gathering of the meetings industry in the country, which welcomes buyers, event organizers and leaders of the sector, strengthening its positioning as a destination capable of combining leisure tourism with meetings tourism.
This new designation as the Best City in the World confirms the extraordinary moment that San Miguel de Allende is experiencing, the result of coordinated work of tourism service providers, business owners, authorities and the community, who have consolidated a development model based on quality, authenticity and the preservation of its identity.
