The People’s Government, insists in the pride in the consolidation of Guanajuato as one of the most important wine regions in Mexico, positioning itself as the second most awarded state in Mexico and receiving the recognition for Best Mexican Wine awarded to Gran Pago de Ricardo Vega 2021, from Cuna de Tierra.
The Secretary of Tourism and Identity, Lupita Robles Leon, reiterated the value of the winemaking tradition in Guanajuato, stating that our State is the second most awarded in the industry.
In the inauguration of the 2026 Grape Harvest Festivals, at the Gran Padre Vineyard located in Dolores Hidalgo, Cradle of Independence, the Secretary said that:
“We are currently the second state with the highest number of international awards; and that demonstrates the quality of the wine from Guanajuato.”
With a total of 52 international awards, at the 2026 Brussels World Competition, one of the most prestigious competitions in the international wine industry, Guanajuato ranked only below Baja California and above Coahuila, a result that reflects the growth, quality and competitiveness that the Guanajuato wine sector has achieved.
The excellence of Guanajuatense wines once again shone on the international stage during the 34th edition of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (CMB) 2016, held from May 21 to 23 in Yerevan, Armenia, where the State garnered 52 awards, solidifying its position as the second most awarded state in Mexico.
Besides Guanajuato earned the recognition for Best Mexican Wine, one of the highest distinctions a Mexican wine can receive.
Guanajuato wines obtained:
- 2 Grand Gold Medals
- 12 Gold Medals
- 10 Silver Medals
- 27 WBC Merit Awards
- 1 special recognition “Revelation Wine”
- The national ranking by number of awards is:
- Baja California, 88 awards
- Guanajuato, 52 awards
- Coahuila, 47 awards
These results add to those obtained at Bacchus 2026, where Guanajuato led the Mexican participation by winning 26 medals, strengthening its position as a national and international benchmark in the production of quality wine.
The People’s Government, led by Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, and through the Secretary of Tourism and Identity, works to strengthen the wine sector and wine tourism which are promoted as a strategic activity that generates opportunities, attracts visitors and projects the name of Guanajuato in the main international scenarios.
