Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, the Governor of the People joined the celebration of the Traditional Opening of the Presa de la Olla, one of the most deeply rooted and identity-defining celebrations in the city of Guanajuato.
As tradition dictates, thousands of families and visitors gathered at the Paseo de la Presa to witness the opening of the floodgates of the Presa de la Olla, a moment framed by the performance of the emblematic waltz Sobre las Olas by author Juventino Rosas.
The Governor and her husband Juan Carlos Montesinos Carranza, President of the Board of Directors of the State DIF System, witnessed the opening of the Dam, and later went to the kiosk in the Florencio Antillon Garden to give snacks to the families in attendance.
This ceremony combines history, heritage, hydraulic engineering and social interaction; it is also a meeting between generations that brings together music, gastronomy, conviviality and pride in a tradition that has lasted for more than two centuries.
The opening of the Presa de la Olla was attended by local, state, Judicial and Authorities and Officials; this celebration is part of the San Juan and San Ignacio festivities, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Guanajuato since 2013.
