In order to strengthen the learning of Mathematics and Science in the classroom, the Secretary of Education of Guanajuato (SEG) launched the State workshop “Support Strategies for the Development of Mathematics Thinking Skills for Educational Equity”, aimed at Pedagogical Technical Advisors (ATP) of primary and secondary schools.

The training, developed in coordination with the Center for Research in Mathematics (CIMAT), is part of the educational strategy promoted by the People’s Government to improve teaching in 370 targeted schools in Guanajuato, especially strengthening the logical, scientific and mathematical thinking of girls, boys and adolescents.

A total of 101 education advisors from different regions of the State are participating, receiving innovative tools to support teachers and transform how Mathematics is taught and learned in schools. Of these, 34 are being trained at the regional headquarters in Irapuato.

The workshop aims to change the perception of mathematics from a complex or distant subject to a practical, accessible, and useful tool for students’ daily lives, through activities related to real-life situations, problem-solving, and projects linked to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics under the STEM approach.

The training lasts 60 hours and takes place from May 6 to June 12, 2026 in a blended format, combining face-to-face sessions and virtual activities through the CIMAT education platform.

During the sessions, participants strengthen strategies for teaching basic operations, fractions, geometry and information analysis, as well as designing accessible and low-cost teaching materials that make learning in the classroom more dynamic and meaningful.

Likewise, the ATPs will develop integrative projects that can later be implemented in the schools participating in Strategy 370, contributing to generating more participatory, innovative learning environments focused on the development of life skills.

“This workshop gives us more practical tools to support teachers and make mathematics clearer, more useful and attractive for students,” shared one participant.

“Working with mathematics based on real-world problems sparks curiosity and makes it easier for students to better understand the content,” said another advisor.

The SEG reaffirmed its commitment to promote a closer, more innovative and equitable education, where mathematics and science become key tools for the academic, personal and professional development of new generations.
