Guanajuato is analyzing new logistics routes to strengthen its exports to the United States, particularly through Texas, one of the states with the greatest commercial dynamism and strategic importance for international exchange.

With the goal of strengthening commercial, logistical, and institutional ties between Guanajuato and South Texas, COFOCE hosted a delegation comprised of Jaime Escobar, Jr., Mayor of Roma; Alejandro Barrera, Municipal Administrator of Roma; Alfonso Ramirez, Deputy Administrator of Roma; Joel Pena, Commercial Relations Officer of Roma; Baltazar Martinez Montemayor, Mayor of Cerralvo, Nuevo Laredo; and Felix Eduardo Rodriguez, businessman from Leon, Guanajuato. They presented a strategic alternative for Guanajuatense companies engaged in foreign trade operations.

During the reunion, the competitive advantages of the Roma, Texas border crossing were presented as an alternative to strengthen the competitiveness of Guanajuato’s exporting companies. Its main attributes include short wait times, efficient operations, support of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and backing from the Roma local Government.

The connectivity of Route 54 was also highlighted as an efficient route to the southern border of Texas, along with the growth of the port, which went from reg}istering operations worth $5.5 million USD in 2017 to more than 50,000 border crossings with a value exceeding $740 million USD by the end of 2025. Given the potential delays at the Laredo customs office due to accidents or logistical problems, having alternative routes like Roma, Texas, represents an opportunity to strengthen the continuity and competitiveness of Guanajuato’s exports.

“It is important to have more alternatives. I think that their choosing the State of Guanajuato, and they recognized it, as the fifth largest economy in Mexico, speaks about the growing importance of Guanajuato in international trade. It is the first non-border state they are visiting. The Mayor is opening doors for us to establish alliances with them through collaboration agreements, and for us, this means opening more doors. International trade should know no borders.” said Carlos Rodriguez, director of the international training and certifications area at COFOCE, who participated in the meeting on behalf of COFOCE’s General Director, Luis Antonio Vargas Zavala.

The reunion marked the beginning of a potential strategic alliance of Guanajuato and Roma, Texas, and included an invitation for Guanajuato State Officials and companies to visit the facilities and learn about the logistical advantages of this border port.

The joint inspection program between Mexico and the United States was also highlighted, which expedites the crossing of goods by coordinating customs inspections. COFOCE promotes strategic alliances that facilitate international trade and consolidate Guanajuato as one of Mexico’s leading export states.
