The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato strengthens the response capacity of its medical units by conducting a simulation of care for injured patients at the Acambaro General Hospital.
Code Orange was activated for a simulated mass arrival of patients to the emergency room, in preparation for the unexpected, which can make the difference between life and death.
The first hypothetical scenario was the care of those injured by a mass hit-and-run during a pilgrimage on the highway; within minutes, multiple injured people began to be transferred, and Code Orange was activated, which consists of receiving a massive influx of people.
This code is activated when resources may be overwhelmed, and the key is a rapid and organized response, with an internal alert. Furthermore, improvisation is not an option in care, with the use of Triage in emergencies.
The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato, Gabriel Cortes Alcala, said that these actions are part of the permanent training strategies to deal in a timely and coordinated manner with emergency situations.
The Acambaro General Hospital “Miguel Hidalgo”, recognized as the People’s Hospital, carried out a simulation of care for a massive arrival of patients, with the purpose of evaluating and reinforcing the protocols of action, the inter-institutional coordination and the response of health personnel to critical scenarios.
This type of exercise allows for the consolidation of the skills of medical personnel, nurses, specialists and support teams, guaranteeing efficient, safe and quality care when real contingencies arise.
During the drill, the activation of Code Orange was put into practice, a mechanism that allows for the organization of hospital care in the face of a massive influx of patients, strengthening decision-making and coordinated work between the different areas of the hospital.
The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato recognized the participation and collaboration of allied institutions such as the Heroic Fire Department, Civil Protection, the Mexican Red Cross and the Guanajuato State Emergency System (SUEG), with a coordination that is fundamental to provide a comprehensive response for the benefit of the population.
