The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato is calling on the population, especially vulnerable groups, to get vaccinated against influenza and Covid 19 in a timely manner to protect their health during the upcoming winter season.

The Secretary of Health, Gabriel Cortes Alcala, invited families in Guanajuato to visit the People’s Health Centers and People’s Hospitals closest to their homes to receive these vaccines, which represent one of the main tools to prevent complications and reduce the risk of hospitalization.

Cortes stressed that it is especially important for pregnant women, adults over 60 years old, children from six months to five years old, health personnel, and people living with chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, as well as those with conditions that can compromise their immune system, including cancer, to get vaccinated.
“When the cold weather arrives and the season for illnesses like influenza and Covid19 begins, we want people to be well protected. That’s why it’s important that they take advantage now and not wait until they get sick to seek medical attention,” he said.

Cortes Alcala emphasized that now is the time to get vaccinated, before the cold weather intensifies and respiratory viruses circulate more widely. Early protection allows the body to develop defenses and be better prepared to face the illness season.
For this season, Guanajuato has one million doses of the influenza vaccine and 700,000 doses of the Covid 19 vaccine available to protect priority groups and reduce the impact of these diseases during the months of highest viral circulation. This vaccination campaign will continue until April of next year.

Cortes Alcala highlighted that the vaccination carried out during the previous period contributed to a decrease of almost 50 percent in Covid 19 cases compared to the previous year, as well as around 10 percent in influenza cases, which demonstrates the importance of maintaining constant protection through immunization.
Finally, Cortes reiterated that people who do not get vaccinated have a higher risk of developing complications and ending up hospitalized, so he stressed on the importance of going to health services, completing their corresponding vaccination schedules, and protecting their families as well.
