The Secretary of Human Rights and the Consulate General of Mexico are joining forces to provide services in response to the current migration situation

In a joint effort to safeguard the identity and rights of the Mexican community, the People’s Government and the Consulate General of Mexico in this city are linking actions to protect Guanajuatense residents in the face of current conditions.

The Secretary of Human Rights, through the Guanajuato Liaison Office in Los Angeles, is carrying out this strategic coordination on the instructions of Governor Libia Denisse Garcia Munoz Ledo, with the objective of providing certainty and security to our fellow citizens in the face of the uncertainty generated by the recent immigration raids in the United States.

From January 2nd to 31st, the Liaison Office facilities served as a direct service center for staff of the Mexican Consulate and the State of Guanajuato. Citizens came to complete various essential identity document procedures, such as obtaining a Mexican passport, consular registration, voter ID (INE), and others. Approximately 870 people received services during this period.

“Our work is not only administrative, it is human, as the Secretary of Human Rights Liz Alejandra Esparza Frausto has also asked us, that Guanajuatenses know that they have an office of their State ready to support them while they process their passport, to give them the assurance that their government knows no borders,” said Lucero Amador, head of this office also known as “Tu Casa Guanajuato”.

And although this agency does not directly issue these federal documents, its role is crucial as a facilitator, providing support, guidance, and technical advice to ensure that each process is successful.

Since Los Angeles has the largest concentration of Guanajuatenses outside of Mexico, this collaboration creates a unique institutional synergy. When users come to pick up their documents, they discover they have direct representation from their home State, which reinforces their sense of belonging and trust.

Beyond documentation, the office takes advantage of this flow of citizens to promote the specific programs of the People’s Government, which include educational support, return programs, and cultural linkage projects for those living abroad.

The objective is clear: to guarantee that no resident of Guanajuato, nor any Mexican in Los Angeles County and surrounding areas, lacks the basic services that protect their identity and rights.

During the past year, the Liaison Office provided 3,811 services to Mexicans and Guanajuatenses who arrived or contacted the office seeking assistance with paperwork or information about deported family members. The majority of these services were provided to Guanajuatense residents living in Los Angeles.

Tu Casa Guanajuato also provides services to Guanajuatenses living on the West Coast of the United States, which includes the states of Alaska, California, Nevada, Utah, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Arizona.
