Continuing her work tour in Madrid, the People’s Governor, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, led the opening ceremony of the exhibition “But I am still the King” at the Mexican Cultural Institute, with the purpose of paying tribute to Jose Alfredo Jimenez, one of the most emblematic composers of Mexico.

“Few people have transcended borders, generations, and languages to become a voice that accompanies millions of people in Latin America and the world, like Jose Alfredo. That is why it is an honor to be here today, in this space that represents the essence of Mexico in the heart of Spain,” said Libia.

“With hearts full of pride, we come to celebrate with all of you, through this extraordinary exhibition, a historic event: the 100th anniversary of the birth of our King, Jose Alfredo Jimenez. And we come to remember him, to celebrate him, and to sing his songs with our Spanish brothers and sisters through this great exhibition, which is an intimate and heartfelt journey through his life and artistic career,” said the Governor.

“My deepest gratitude to the Embassy of Mexico in Spain and to Ambassador Quirino Ordaz Coppel for their generous hospitality and for opening the doors of this Cultural Institute to us, which is a living bridge between our nations. Thanks also to the Federal Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodriguez Zamora, for making it possible for Guanajuato, a land of history, art, and tradition, to be present in Madrid with this exhibition that fills us with pride,” said Libia.

The Governor acknowledged the collaboration and presence of Paloma Jimenez Galvan, whose dedication and commitment have been fundamental to make of this project a reality. “Thank you so much, Paloma, for all your passion and dedication to preserve your father’s legacy,” she said.

Today, with Jose Alfredo as our standard-bearer and his songs as our anthem, we celebrate the strength of our roots, the magic of our music, and the nobility of our identity. In this “strange world” we live in, the music and poetry of our greatest composer are a great cultural bridge that unites Guanajuato and Mexico with Spain, said Libia Dennise.

“I am convinced that our paths, the paths of Spain and Mexico, are intertwined by destiny. Jose Alfredo taught us that music is a universal language, capable of uniting hearts regardless of geography. Today, in Madrid, his verses come alive once again, reminding us that culture is the best bridge between peoples,” the Governor emphasized.

Libia said that this exhibition and cultural exchange are also an opportunity to strengthen ties between Guanajuato and Spain. “We are sister nations, united by history, language, and a deep mutual admiration.”

The Governor invited everyone to explore every corner of this exhibit with an open heart, from today until February 15th. Here you will find images, objects, and mementos that connect us to the life of Jose Alfredo, but also to the history of a country that sings, dreams, and never stops celebrating life.

“Thank you Jose Alfredo Jimenez, for giving us songs that are eternal. And long live the music that unites us!” noted Libia Dennise.
