Guanajuato/Gto News
The colonial charm of Guanajuato, its alleys full of history and its colorful celebrations once again place it among the favorite destinations of Mexicans to experience the Day of the Dead, above beach destinations like Puerto Vallarta.

According to data from Booking.com, the State saw a 60% increase in accommodation searches compared to the previous year, driven by its cultural offer, traditional tours, and iconic parades that attract visitors from all over the country each year.
The magic of Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a season that not only honors those who have passed on, but also celebrates life through altars, marigolds, candles, incense, and artistic expressions that surround the towns and cities of the State.

Guanajuato is renowned for the festive atmosphere that fills its streets, where tradition blends with performances, music, local cuisine, and a tourist experience that preserves cultural identity.
Nationally, the trend reflects a growing interest in traveling within Mexico during this period. According to Booking.com’s analysis, these are the destinations with the highest growth in searches for travel between October 31 and November 3, 2025:
- Mexico City +77%
- Guanajuato +60%
- Oaxaca +31%
- Playa del Carmen +23%
- Puerto Vallarta +15%

Guanajuato stands out for combining its colonial architecture, centuries-old traditions, and activities that connect visitors with history, art, and collective memory.
For the State’s tourism sector, this growth confirms Mexicans’ interest in authentic experiences in destinations with identity and cultural heritage. The season also represented an opportunity for economic growth for hoteliers, merchants, service providers, tour guides, cultural venues, and local businesses that welcomed thousands of visitors during this period.

The symbolic and cultural value of the season also significantly boosted the local economy. This year, the projected goal was reached, with over 350,000 visitors arriving throughout the State, generating an economic impact exceeding 550 million pesos.
The statistics published by Booking.com are especially relevant given that it is a platform with international reach, operating in more than 220 countries and territories. This global presence makes every statistic related to search growth or occupancy an indicator of international, not just local, significance.

These types of statistics become key tools for destination promotion, as they demonstrate the real positioning before global audiences and provide solid arguments to foster commercial alliances, international campaigns and the attraction of visitors from distant markets.
This influx of tourists generates income for thousands of families involved in hospitality, gastronomy, crafts, and tourism services; in these celebrations the families find a source of employment, development, and community growth.
The streets, hotels, markets, restaurants, and plazas not only welcomed visitors but also became a meeting point where tradition strengthens the regional economy.
