Representing Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, the Secretary of Security and Peace, Juan Mauro Gonzalez Martinez, participated in the Solemn Session for the 165th anniversary of the Battle of August 10, 1860, a historic event that marked the course of the Republic and gave Silao the title of Silao of the Victory.

Before authorities from all three levels of government, representatives from various sectors, and the general public, the Secretary emphasized that this historic event continues to inspire the fight for freedom and peace.

“Today, as we gather here in honor of those heroes who defended our freedom and gave their lives for their love of Mexico, we should also be reminded of the commitment and responsibility we have as citizens, and above all as public servants, to recover spaces for coexistence and family unity, to return home and live with our families in a peaceful environment,” said Juan Mauro.

The Official recalled that, more than 300 days into the current State administration, and thanks to the new Operational Coordination Strategy of the New Anti-Crime Intelligence Force (CONFIA), Guanajuato closed the month of July with 155 homicides, the lowest figure in at least eight years and 45% less than at the start of the current administration.

“Today, a security model with sustained results is being consolidated, not just with words,” noted Juan Mauro.

Gonzalez Martinez explained that, from September to July, more than 220 million pesos have been prevented from reaching criminals thanks to the recovery of seized merchandise, hydrocarbons, and suspected drugs, foiled extortion cases, and the arrests of 2,000 people, including 44 perpetrators of violence.

Juan Mauro also highlighted the work of the Undersecretary of Intelligence and the Undersecretary of Prevention, the latter of which has carried out more than 12,000 interventions that have benefitted one million people.

Silao Mayor Janet Melanie Murillo Chavez emphasized that this commemoration not only honors historical memory but it also reinforces the current commitment to building a safe and prosperous municipality. “For us as City Council, it is of utmost importance to commemorate this battle that gives our city its identity. This is how our city is today, with a long journey ahead, a path to follow,” said Murillo.

Municipal chronicler Paola Maria Trujillo Hernandez presented a historical recollection of the battle, in which the liberal forces of Jesus Gonzalez Ortega, Ignacio Zaragoza, and Manuel Doblado defeated the conservative army in two hours, consolidating the advance toward the reestablishment of the federal government.

At the commemorative session were present representatives of the Legislative and Judicial Power, military, civil as well as representatives of the business sector, professional associations, and civil society.
