At the emblematic Palacio de Bellas Artes and at the Juarez Theater in Guanajuato, the Governor of the People, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, led the presentation ceremony of the 53rd International Cervantino Festival (FIC), which will be held from October 10 to 26, with the United Kingdom and the State of Veracruz as guests of honor.

With cultural and diplomatic authorities, the Governor emphasized that “culture is magic, it is tradition, it is identity, it is a question, but it is also an answer. It is the key that opens the door to the spirit, to the soul, today more than ever we need this connection, this solidarity that culture and art generate.”

The Governor emphasized Guanajuato’s profound pride in hosting Latin America’s most important cultural festival: “Over these years, the Festival has been the perfect place to celebrate the universality of art and to unite Guanajuato with Mexico and the entire world. Guanajuato offers not only its wonderful geography but also its historical identity to be the great stage for this Festival of the Spirit.”

This edition will feature:
- 140 performances
- More than 3,400 artists
- From 31 countries and locations in Mexico
- A Cervantes circuit as part of a cultural decentralization policy
- It will be performed in 2 states
- 22 cities across Mexico
Claudia Curiel de Icaza, head of Mexico’s Secretary of Culture, said that the 53rd edition of the FIC breaks with traditional programming patterns and focuses on working collectively, with a fresh and contemporary vision of local, national, and international creativity, based on dialogue and collaboration.

“In addition to the country and the invited state, of course, we also extended an invitation to a young audience that was asking for a certain type of high-quality programming, but where the city of Guanajuato was a reference point. So we invited Nathy Peluso, Los bichos from Great Britain, Sonido Gallo Negro, among other,” said Curiel de Icaza.
With a strong commitment to the right to culture, participation, and collaboration, the Secretary of Culture of the Mexican Government, Curiel, said that for decades there hasn’t been such intense, friendly, and purposeful work from all levels of government.
“We work for the public, for cultural communities, primarily local and national ones, in close collaboration with international talent because that was one of our first questions: how to ensure that those who come in also engage with our talent and that those who leave take something of the country with them,” said the Federal Official.
