The Conde Rul Museum was the scene of a round table in which museum experts shared opinions and concerns about Museums, Heritage and Sustainability as part of the activities for the Day Museum World.
In the event were Dr. Vanessa Freitag, research professor in the degree in Culture and Art at the University of Guanajuato; Dr. Walter Cisneros Mujica, Academic of the University of Guanajuato and researcher; Master Alejandra Sanchez Gutierrez, Coordinator of Special Cultural Projects at the Iconographic Museum of Don Quixote and as moderator, Master Ana Renata Buchannan Zarate, Coordinator of Museums of the State Institute of Culture.
Dr. Freitag focused her reflection on how to make museums a necessity, pointing out that although they should be democratic spaces, they are found in sacralized and imposing buildings that are not very inclusive.
Freitag presented three key questions as an exercise for reflection:
- Are museums sensitive to offers from new artists?
- Does the museum help all visitors understand the images?
- Does it present an attractive offer to the community?
Doctor Walter Cisneros Mujica talked about sustainability and advertising management that is carried out by presenting small and misleading sustainable actions as sufficient as a marketing strategy without seriously addressing issues such as the greenhouse effect, inclusion, identity and equity.
Alejandra Sanchez Gutierrez pointed towards sustainability and well-being, highlighting the objectives of the International 2030 Agenda and its relationship with the work of museums, highlighting objective 3 that refers to health and well-being, 13 that addresses the climate and 15 that protects life on earth.
Finally, they agreed that the most arduous work for the future is with children and from the academic point of view to ensure that museums are perceived by people as their own and fulfill the objective of promoting identity, leaving as a challenge the education for peace, inequality, educational lag, consumption, nomadic communities, technology and perception against reality.
In a virtual message, Maria Adriana Camarena de Obeso, director of the State Institute of Culture, recognized the museum staff, the members of the Internal Museum Advisory Council, the actors of the contemporary cultural ecosystem and said: “If there is something about art, it is that it delights, that is to say: it excites. And for this we need the most important part of museums: the visitors”.
