Jalpa de Canovas achieved extraordinary success during the 8th Walnut and Quince Fair, prompting organizers to plan an expansion to more days following a massive turnout. The magical town reaffirms its status as the Best Rural Tourist Village

The Eighth Gastronomic Walnut and Quince Festival, held over two days, gathered enthusiastic visitors from Monterrey, Guadalajara, Queretaro, Veracruz, Guatemala, Michoacan, the State of Mexico, and naturally, Purisima del Rincon, the host municipality that warmly welcomed all guests.
“This festival combines Government efforts with the warmth of Jalpa de Canovas residents, the talent of service providers, and the unconditional support of our visitors,” said Roberto Garcia Urbano, Mayor of Purisima del Rincon.
The Mayor added that “this event not only honors our roots but directly boosts the economic development of local producer families, demonstrating that Purisima del Rincon continues to stand out as a Magical Town and the Best Rural Tourist Village.”
During the official ceremony, Jose Alvaro de Anda Campos, Director of Tourism Development (representing the Secretary of Tourism and Identity and Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo), reaffirmed the State support for cultural events that preserve historical heritage while activating the tourism value chain.
“Quince and walnuts represent living identity, family, and a legacy across generations. This festival shows how tradition transforms into economic well-being. We recognize the cross-cutting work of traditional cooks, hoteliers, artisans, and service providers who enable Jalpa de Canovas to share its rich history and architecture with all of Mexico,” highlighted Jose Alvaro de Anda Campos on behalf of the Guanajuato State Government.
Starting as early as eight in the morning on Sunday, entire families gathered to stroll along the streets, central garden, and historic spots to savor the vast culinary offers crafted from these iconic fruits. Attendants enjoyed everything from traditional quince paste freshly made in copper cauldrons, artisanal breads, jams, and ice creams, to refreshing beverages, liqueurs, essential oils, and innovative savory dishes.
Representing local merchants and exhibitors, Araceli Canchola expressed her gratitude to authorities and attendees while sharing her personal journey.
“I started making only traditional quince paste. Today, thanks to training workshops and support from both Municipal and State governments, we have innovated with chamoy-infused quince paste, sugar-free jams suitable for people with diabetes, and various other products,” said Araceli.
As part of the official program, special recognitions were presented to outstanding exhibitors for their career trajectory and contributions, followed by certificates awarded to all participating vendors.
While guests enjoyed the welcoming atmosphere, local history was narrated in the main square, recalling that the historical domain of Jalpa de Canovas once spanned regions stretching from present-day Irapuato all the way to the borders of Jalisco at the Calderon bridge.
Other stages hosted vibrant folkloric performances, live music, a performance by local singer Yatziri, traditional dances from Comonfort, the Mariachi Embajadores Jaliscienses Flor de Autonomia, a singing contest, an impressive video mapping show, and a grand closing performance by Banda Los Crucitos.
Key attendees at the event included the President of the Municipal DIF Board, Enriqueta Martinez Lopez; Council Members Salvador Cruz Villegas (Head of the Economic Development and Tourism Commission) and Dora Delia Fonseca Munoz; the Director of Tourism for Purisima, Jose Roberto Camargo; local beauty queens from Jalpa, along with other distinguished guests.
