A Guanajuatense student uf the Technological University of Leon will represent Mexico in a world technical skills competition in Shanghai.

The Technological University of Leon held a flag-raising ceremony for Sandra Guadalupe Diaz Urueta, a student of the Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering in Information Technologies and Digital Innovation, who will represent Mexico at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, one of the most important international events to demonstrate excellence in technical and professional skills.
This achievement adds to the vision of the People’s Government, led by Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, to strengthen the talent of young people and generate opportunities that allow them to develop their abilities and project them in national and international scenarios, in accordance with the Guanajuato SUMA strategy, A New Direction for Our People.
Salomon Ceballos Ochoa, Director General of the Guanajuato State Institute for Training (IECA) emphasized the importance of supporting the participation of young Guanajuatenses in international events and congratulated Sandra on this significant achievement and recognized UTL as an institution that consistently fosters the talent and abilities of its students.
“We need to bring back everything that is happening in those countries, the best practices in technical training, and have those contacts, because there can be a lot of collaboration,” said Ceballos.
Jose Christian Padilla Navarro, Rector of UTL, congratulated Sandra and highlighted the pride it represents for the Institution that one of its students is carrying the name of UTL, Guanajuato and Mexico with pride; and confirmed the University’s support for Sandra during this process.
“It’s a trip to the most important technology Olympics in the world. It’s an event where you’ll not only be representing UTL or Guanajuato, but all of Mexico. To date, I understand there hasn’t been a medal for Mexican representatives, but you never know what might happen. Enjoy it, let yourself go, and let’s hope it’s the best for you,” said Padilla.
The 48th WorldSkills Competition will be held from September 22nd to the 27th, 2026, at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, China. The event will bring together more than 1,400 young people from over 70 countries and regions, who will demonstrate their knowledge and skills in 64 areas across various sectors and professions.
“I feel a great deal of support from both institutions. They have helped me in many ways, with knowledge so that I have the necessary skills to be able to go,” Sandra said.
With her participation in WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, Sandra will bring preparation, talent and dedication, as well as the support of her teachers and an entire university community. IECA provided Sandra with guidance and support and acted as a liaison with the WorldSkills organization, combining resources with UTL to open opportunities for talented young Guanajuatenses.
